How does it work?  ......back to Top

You need to complete 5 dives, two of which are compulsory - the navigation dive & deep dive.  The final 3 dives are chosen by you from a selection.

Once complete the Advanced Open Water qualification then certifies you to dive to a maximum of 30 metres, opening up a world of choice especially when diving abroad.

To continue your exploration of the underwater world, you must hold the PADI Open Water Diver qualification or equivalent, and be at least 12 years old.  All equipment is provided for your use (at no extra cost) with the exception of mask, snorkel, boots & fins.  Limited sizes of dry suits are available if you wish to take the dry suit elective dive.  All nitrox equipment is also provided if you elect to complete this dive.

Some dives are held at Horsea Island in Portsmouth. These include: navigation, search + recovery, peak performance buoyancy, dry suit, enriched air, diver propulsion vehicle & digital photography. The entry fee to Horsea Island is currently £10 per day.

Dives held out at sea include: wreck, boat, drift, deep, digital photography & naturalist.

Boat dives incur an extra charge of £15 per dive.

Alternatively, twice a year we hold a trip to an inland quarry site enabling you to complete the course in one entire weekend if preferred.

Course structure ......back to Top

First you start by reading the PADI Adventures In Diving manual sections and complete the relevant knowledge reviews.

There are two compulsory dives to complete as part of the course which are the Underwater Navigation dive & the Deep dive.  We recommend starting off with the Navigation dive held at Horsea Island.

Then you can elect to complete any three of the following:

Boat dive; Digital Underwater Photography dive; Diver Propulsion Vehicle dive; Drift dive; Dry Suit dive; Enriched Air dive; Peak Performance Buoyancy dive; Search & Recovery dive; Underwater Naturalist dive; Wreck dive

We recommend the Deep dive is the last dive to complete the course as by this stage you will have more experience with buoyancy and boat diving.

Dives are held on specific weekends when we are at Horsea Island or diving on the boat.

The coast around Shoreham is a historically interesting area for diving, with a choice of many wrecks, and areas of reef and mussel beds to explore, offering endless possibilities for the advanced diver.

Once qualified, you will receive the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification card, qualifying you to dive to a maximum of 30 metres anywhere in the world.

How to book ......back to Top

You can book your first dive date online now by email here.

When diving at sea on the boat we are governed by tides and especially weather, meaning some dives take place on weekday evenings as well as weekends, so some flexibility is required.

Pre-assessment ......back to Top

According to PADI standards, if you have not trained with us before and/or you haven't dived for some time, we ask you to complete a pre-assessment with us to ensure you are adequately prepared for the course.  This involves a pool session held on a Wednesday evening and entails demonstrating a few basic skills.  This pre-assessment is provided by us free of charge.

A liability release, medical statement & booking form will be required to be completed upon booking.

Additional Information ......back to Top

  • The first dive we recommend to be completed is the navigation dive held at Horsea Island.
  • There are club boat dives every Monday evening from March onwards, that can also be used towards your course.
  • All boat dives are dependant on weather and subject to cancellations.
  • We have limited sizes of dry suit in the school, so in some cases you may not be able to complete this dive if we do not have an appropriate size.
  • Liability releases, medical forms & booking forms will need to be completed on booking.
