The PADI Assistant Instructor Course is the next step up after qualifying as a PADI Dive Master, and one step away from the full Open Water Scuba Instructor level.

The course builds upon what you learnt as a Dive Master, increasing your abilities to organise and supervise diving activities, while concentrating on developing teaching skills. As part of the course you will be expected to organise and deliver actual teaching presentations in the classroom as well as carry out confined water & open water skill tuition.Once qualified you will be able to independently teach the PADI Project Aware speciality, Peak Performance Buoyancy speciality, the Discover Scuba Diving course & the PADI Seal Team course.

The course price includes all tuition & pool costs. Not included are dive site entry fees (payable direct to site).

You will require several PADI manuals, publications and workbooks for home study, which are not included in the price - these are available from us at a cost of £335.

Once qualified you will need to apply to PADI for the final certification, the price of which is also not included.

You may then want to carry straight on to the next stage - the Open Water Scuba Instructor programme - click here for details.

How does it work?  ......back to Top

  • The course is divided into various stages, starting with academic sessions, then confined water teaching and finally open water teaching.
  • The academic sessions begin with computer presentations delivered by your instructor on the various aspects of PADI and the PADI system of education.  One of the presentations will teach you how to effectively organise and conduct classroom presentations to PADI Open Water students.  You will then be assessed on two actual presentations in front of your fellow students. The confined water and open water sessions are much the same, where you will carry out teaching of skills whilst being assessed by your instructor.  You'll also need to perform the 20 skills you completed in your Dive Master course to a higher standard demonstration quality.
  • Finally you will take an open book PADI standards exam.
