  What is PADI?

PADI stands for Professional Association of Diving Instructors and is the largest diver training organisation in the world.  There are PADI instructors & dive centres in over 100 countries from the largest continents to the smallest Philippino islands!!

PADI qualifications ensure that you'll be recognised as a qualified diver all over the world.  Courses are based upon a continuing education philosophy, starting with the basics and building on that knowledge as you progress through the levels according to your interests.

Who Can Learn to Scuba Dive?

Anyone from the age of 8 upwards can have a go in a swimming pool.  Please click on the Beginners button above and then the Discover Scuba button for information on these taster sessions.

The first recreational scuba course you can take to give you a full diving certification is the Open Water Diver course, qualifying you to dive to 18 metres.  PADI has reduced the minimum age for certification to 10, but we feel that to comfortably deal with UK conditions, 12 is a more realistic age to start a full course.  If you are aged under 15 you receive the Junior version of the qualification, meaning you are free to dive anywhere in the world under the supervision of another qualified adult to a slightly shallower depth of 12 metres maximum.

The only prerequisites for the course are that you are physically fit and can swim 200 metres unaided.

Can I learn the theory/pool work in this country and qualify abroad?

Yes!  This option is called the PADI Open Water Diver referral course.

This course allows you to learn all the theory and swimming pool work in this country, and then you can complete the dives abroad at another PADI centre in your chosen destination.

Full details of this are found on the Open Water Diver course link.

  Once Qualified, what then?

Once you have the Open Water Diver certification, you can then either continue diving at this level, or you can choose to continue your diving knowledge and experience by taking further education courses. To find out more, follow the links from the Advanced course section.

You could even consider making diving your career, moving up the ranks to the acclaimed PADI Open Water Instructor level and beyond!

Diving in the UK is not cold, murky and boring as it is made out to be - in fact the temperate waters around the country yield some of the most interesting diving.  Although visibility may not be as crystal clear as the tropics, the diving is challenging and fun, with more shipwrecks per mile of coastline than anywhere else.  Some photos of UK dives can be found under the Galleries section on the menu above.

We run a boat for qualified divers of all levels where you can get the chance to dive some of the fascinating sites just minutes away from the coast.  Sites aren't all deep either - many of the best dives are in 8-12 metres of water.

Details of local dives can be found by clicking the 'Local Diving' link on the menu above. For information on diving please click on the 'Boat Charter' link above.
