If your love of diving extends to a career choice, then the PADI Dive Master course is the first step on the ladder to reaching Instructor level.

Working with real students alongside your instructor, you will build your knowledge and abilities up to demonstration quality, and assist with actual courses both in the pool & open water.

Once qualified you will receive your first PADI professional qualification, which is internationally recognised.

The course price includes all tuition & the PADI Dive Master crew pack (including the Dive Master manual & set of slates). The price does not include dive site entry fees (payable direct to dive site), the final application to PADI for the qualification and the cost of a diving medical.  You will also need to purchase all 3 versions of the RDP if you don't already have them prior to commencing the course. These are all available from us at a discounted rate.

Please note that the course price does not include use of equipment, though we can hire cylinders if needed.

To enrol on the PADI Dive Master course you must meet the following requirements: have at least 20 logged dives to start and 60 by the end of the course; hold the PADI Rescue Diver qualification or equivalent; hold a current first aid certificate (PADI EFR or equivalent); be at least 18 years old; have your own scuba equipment.

How does it work?  ......back to Top

The course is divided into various stages including:

  • Theory sessions - held at your convenience, once you have completed the home study.  Theory sessions culminate in 8 exams, held at the end of each lesson.
  • 5 confined water (pool) sessions - during these you will work with real Open Water students, beginning by observing the instructor & qualified dive masters, working up to actually supervising students & demonstrating basic skills, all under the supervision of your instructor
  • 5 Open Water sessions - again working with real students.  During these you will act as an assistant to your instructor, with the emphasis on supervision.  Not only will you work with Open Water Diver classes, you will also assist with continuing education courses.
  • Watermanship skills in the pool: 400 metre swim; 800 metre snorkel swim; 15 minute tread water; 100 metre diver tow; demonstration-quality skill circuit; underwater equipment exchange.
  • Rescue evaluation - in the pool you'll complete a rescue exercise, repeating what you learnt on your Rescue Diver course but to a higher standard.
  • Underwater map - you'll map out a dive site, either at sea or Horsea Island.
  • Prepare an emergency assistance plan - again drawing on your Rescue Diver skills, you'll formulate an emergency assistance plan in the instance of a real diving incident.
  • Prior to certification you'll need to get a diving medical - if you're going to continue to use your Dive Master qualification and work as a instructional assistant in the UK you'll need to get an HSE diving medical.  We can advise you accordingly on this.

Course schedule ......back to Top

The majority of the course is held at weekends which is when we do most of our Open Water tuition, but there are also evening pool sessions that you can attend. Theory sessions can be booked at your convenience once you have completed the self-study. The length of the course depends on your availability, but if you are fairly committed you can comfortably complete the course over 4-6 months.

The cost of the course is £399 which includes the PADI Dive Master manual, Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving, Diving Knowledge Workbook, Dive Master slates, Discover Scuba Diving cue card and briefcase, all tuition, pool costs, air fills or cylinder hire where needed. Materials not included that you may need to purchase if you don't already own them include the RDP, Wheel & eRDP.

To help with the cost you can spread payments over the duration of the course - we ask for a £125 deposit when booking which secures your Dive Master crew pack, with the balance payable at regular intervals.

The extra costs are dive site entry fees, the final application to PADI, the extra required materials as detailed above, and the cost of a diving medical.
