Once you have qualified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent, the next step is the PADI Rescue Diver course. This course will increase your confidence in diving, giving you the knowledge and skills to safely control any problems. It will also be the most rewarding course that you have undertaken yet, earning you greater respect amongst other divers.

The emphasis of this course is on looking after not only yourself, but also other people. You'll develop & perfect skills such as the tired diver tow, learn how to respond to a panicked diver and learn how to give in-water resuscitation effectively. After learning the essential skills in the comfort of a swimming pool, you'll put into practice what you learnt by participating in 4 realistic scenarios in open water.

All materials are included in the course price, including the Rescue Diver crew pack & EFR manual. Cylinder & weights are provided as part of the course cost.

Not provided: main scuba equipment (available to hire where needed); site entry fee (payable direct to dive site).

The price also includes the PADI Emergency First Response first aid course and certification if needed. For detailed information about the EFR course please click here.

Prerequisites  ......back to Top

To enrol on the Rescue Diver course you must be at least 12 years old and be a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or if you have an equivalent qualification from another certifying agency then you must also show proof of 20 logged dives).

You must have your own main equipment as it is important at this stage to be completely familiar with everything due to the nature of the skills taught. We can hire cylinders & weights at no extra charge. If you need to hire any other items, hire charges will apply.

Prior to attending the Rescue Diver course you must have an up-to-date first aid qualification or have attended the PADI Emergency First response course offered in conjunction with the Rescue course.

There are two price structures, depending on whether you already hold the PADI Emergency First Response certificate or equivalent recognised first aid qualification (eg St. Johns Ambulance First Aid).

* Alternatively, if you require the PADI Emergency First Response course, then the price is £245 fully inclusive.

  Course structure   ......back to Top

After completing some home study with the PADI manuals, the course is divided into two parts:

* The first stage of the course is to sit the EFR first aid course where applicable. We hold this over 2 afternoons on the first weekend of the course.

* The second stage is held on the following weekend beginning with a theory session on the Saturday morning, culminating in a multi-choice exam. After lunch we travel to the pool and complete the confined water exercises.

* The Sunday is held at Horsea Island in Portsmouth, where you will put everything into practice by participating in 4 realistic scenarios.

Schedules  ......back to Top

We run PADI Rescue courses throughout the year every other month. The course is held over two consecutive weekends as listed above. If you already hold a first aid certificate then the course only takes 1 weekend. We like a maximum of 4 people on our courses to allow for more personal attention and time. Dates are listed below.

Pre-assessment ......back to Top

According to PADI standards, if you have not trained with us before and/or you haven't dived for some time, we ask you to complete a pre-assessment with us to ensure you are adequately prepared for the course.  This involves a pool session held on a Wednesday evening and entails demonstrating a few basic skills.  This pre-assessment is provided by us free of charge.

A liability release, medical statement & booking form will be required to be completed upon booking.
